The GameCube is a sixth generation home console released worldwide by Nintendo between 2001 and 2002 and is the first Nintendo console to use optical discs, in miniDVD format, as the primary storage medium. The console supports limited online gaming for a small number of games via a broadband adapter or modem and can connect to a Game Boy Advance with a link cable, which allows players to access exclusive in-game features using the handheld as a second screen and controller. The console is recognized for its controller, extensive software library and high-quality games, as well as several accessories including WaveBird wireless controller, Game Boy Player peripheral and more. In February 2007, Nintendo announced to cease first-party support and discontinue console with 21.74 million units sold worldwide.
