The PlayStation 2 is a sixth-generation home console developed and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment and released worldwide over the year 2000. The PS2 offers backward-compatibility for its predecessor's DualShock controller, as well as its games, with several optional hardware such as DVD remote control, hard disk drive, network adapter, horizontal and vertical stands, memory cards, multitap, USB motion camera, USB keyboard and mouse, and a headset. It's the best-selling video game console of all time, having sold over 155 million units sold worldwide. Sony later manufactured several smaller revisions of the console, the Slimline models, making it popular well into the seventh generation by continuing to be produced until 2013, when it was finally discontinued after twelve years of production.
