SATURN
SATURN

The Sega Saturn is a 32-bit fifth-generation home console developed by Sega near the end of 1994 in Japan and in 1995 in North America and Europe. The Saturn has a dual-CPU architecture and eight processors, it features a slot intended for RAM expansion cartridges and for NetLink dial-up modem, with games in CD-ROM format and a library containing several arcade ports as well as original games. After an initial success in Japan, it failed to sell in large numbers in the U.S.A. and, after the debut of the Nintendo 64 in late 1996, it rapidly lost market share and ceased production in 1998, while continuing to be sold in Japan up until 2000. With 9.26 million units sold worldwide, the Saturn is considered a commercial failure due to its complex hardware design and limited third-party support.
