The Xbox is a sixth generation home console and the first installment in the Xbox series consoles manufactured by Microsoft and released worldwide between late 2001 and 2002. The Xbox was graphically powerful compared to its rivals, featuring a 733 MHz Intel Pentium III processor that could be found on a standard PC, it was also the first console to feature a built-in hard disk by eliminating the need for separate memory cards. In November 2002, Microsoft launched the online gaming service Xbox Live that enabled subscribers to download new content and connect with other players through broadband connection, thanks to the integrated Ethernet port in the console. The system sold a total of 24 million units worldwide before being discontinued in 2005, with Microsoft ending Xbox Live support for the system in 2010.
