The Xbox controller "The Duke" is the first game controller for Microsoft's original Xbox gaming console and was presented at the Game Developers Conference in the year 2000. This type of first generation Xbox controller, nicknamed "The Duke", was the first controller bundled with the Xbox system for all territories except Japan. A smaller, redesigned variant, called "Controller S", was in fact bundled with the console only in Japan. Subsequently, the latter was also released in other territories and at the end of 2003 it totally replaced "The Duke" controller worldwide, which however remained available as an optional accessory.
